Tauromenitans

Tauromenium (modern Taormina), a Sicilian city on the eastern coast north of Mt Aetna, in alliance with Rome by treaty (foedus) — and so, with the Mamertine city, exempt from the tithe (Verr. 2.3.13). Even so the Tauromenitans threw down Verres's statue from the forum (Verr. 2.2.160).
