also: Thespiae

Thespiae, a small Boeotian city north-west of Thebes, famous for its temple of Eros containing the most celebrated work of Praxiteles — the Cupid which (almost alone of his Greek travels) Verres did not steal (Verr. 2.4.4-7, 135). Home of Cicero's correspondent T. Manlius (Ad fam. 13.22).
