Tyndaritani

also: Tyndaritans

Tyndaris, a Sicilian city on the northern coast east of Mylae, founded by Dionysius I in 396 BC for Lacedaemonian exiles; a city in alliance with Rome. Its Mercury statue carried off by Verres is one of the central episodes of Verr. 2.4 (85-92); the Tyndaritan ship and the captain Aristeus are key figures in the Helorus disaster (Verr. 2.5.108-111).
