Pompeia via

also: Via Pompeia

The Via Pompeia, the Roman coastal road of Sicily, built (or substantially renovated) probably under M. Aurelius Cotta around 132 BC and traditionally associated with Pompeius. The Mamertines fixed their crucifixes outside the city on this road; Verres ordered the cross of P. Gavius to be set up here, facing Italy (Verr. 2.5.169).
