Vibo Valentia (the Roman colony at modern Vibo Valentia in Bruttium), a coastal city of southern Italy where Cicero stopped on his way into exile in 58 BC (Ad Att. 3.3-4); the same community had earlier appealed in vain to Verres for help against pirate raids (Verr. 2.5.40).
