Trachiniae (Sophocles)

the Trachiniae

also: Trachiniae, Trachiniis, the Trachiniae, Women of Trachis

The tragedy of Sophocles dramatizing the death of Hercules, poisoned by the robe Deianira sent in the unwitting belief it would restore his love. Cicero quotes (in Latin verse, probably his own rendering) the dying Hercules' long lament as an example of a hero broken by pain.
