Antium (modern Anzio) was Cicero's favourite quiet seaside retreat from Rome, paired here with Atticus's villa estate at Buthrotum in Epirus, near the island of Corcyra (Corfu).

Antium (modern Anzio) and Circeii (Monte Circeo) were coastal towns of Latium flanking Cicero's retreat at Astura; he is judging the conspicuousness of the seaside site for Tullia's shrine. He wanted a place "much frequented" so the memorial would be seen.
