Headnote
Cicero to Atticus, written at the Tusculan villa on the morning of 26 June 44 BC — Perseus dateline Scr. in Tusculano vi K. Quint. mane, ut vid., a. 710 (44). Another very short note. The courier Cicero had sent to Brutus has come back without delivering the letter: Servilia (Brutus’s mother) told him that Brutus had set out the same day — the manuscript gives a daggered toponym, presumably the name of one of his estates. Cicero is sorry the letter went undelivered. Silius had still not arrived. The brief he had put together is now sent on to Atticus. He asks when to expect Atticus to come.
The courier I had sent to Brutus came back en route on the seventh day before the Kalends. Servilia told him that Brutus had set out on that very day for his estate. I was truly sorry that my letter was not delivered. Silius had not come to me. I have drawn up the case; I have sent you the document. I should be glad to know on what day to expect you.
